Retail Therapy?

...featuring Monster High dolls. No, I haven't gotten into them, I've been helping hyperbolicsquid find the ones he's looking for. This entails a lot more than most would think. xD I've seen the inside of more Walmarts and Targets in the last few weeks than I have in the last five years.

I do confess, when I lucked out and called my local Walmart Supercenter to discover that they had a box of the B&W Skull Shores Frankie Stein that hadn't been put on the floor, and I snagged 3 of the 6 (all claimed, sorry.) I kept one for myself. Their proportions are actually pretty interesting, I was thinking at trying my hand at making some clothing for them, and I needed a doll for that. Makes sense to get the doll that was only $4 and change, and came with no accessories beyond a bracelet that would have to be cut off and a stand. ;)

For fun, I took a few photos after dunking her head in hot water to get the hair gunk out:

In other news, just about done with my Small Fandom Bang fic, it'll be posted on April 20th. Still unemployed, but I gave myself another month's leeway with bills by selling nearly $1k in anime stuff at the Anime Conji swap meet. Protip: Accepting credit cards goes a looong way. I got one of those Square readers for my Samsung Stratosphere, worked great. :D

Not done a lot else lately of note besides that, I think. I'm boring. ;)

Just FYI, the hands/forearms pop off so that you can dress them more easily -- so there's no need to cut the bracelet :)

And, YAY, Skull Shores Frankie! She is such a cutie -- one of my favorites! ^__^

I went to Wal-Mart and my local Target yesterday, and a different Target today (I had legitimate errands to run, but I also swung by the toy aisle *grin*), but sadly, no joy. Still looking for the Clawdeen/Howleen 2-pack (I want another Howleen to customize, and I'd like to get a spare of that version of Clawdeen to re-root -- the purple-and-green hair is fun, but it's hard to dress her!) and for Rochelle.

Hoping my local stores stock up again soon!

::pops hand off:: Wouldja look at that. xD; Yeah, I was worried because these gals seem kinda fragile, but not too bad there. Thanks! :D

I like her rather...old school look. When her hair was still wet, my tendency was to slick her hair to something resembling the bride of Frankenstein. :P

I'm also looking for Howleen as well, but it appears that Target is going to stop selling them in-store, if their website is to be believed. :/ New stock day at my local TRU is Thursday, so I was thinking of joining the stalkers at opening to find another Rochelle and a Jackson. xD

I don't know WTF is up with Target and Howleen -- a lot of stores seem never to have gotten her, so I figured they were still in the stocking phase . . . WalMart, TRU, and ToysRUs all seem to have crappy websites in terms of tracking availability.

Argh, why does Mattel not sell them directly online??!? Their webstore is never up-to-date with the newer characters, so it's near-impossible to snag them unless you're willing to stalk multiple stores :/

I actually got one SS Frankie and Rochelle through the sales board on monsterhighdolls.com, but I think I lucked out. xD The box isn't here yet, though, so I'm hoping she didn't rip me off...

...if Mattel sold them through their website, that would be too easy! xD;;; Yeah, I definitely get what you mean. ::groans::

A website that seems to be on the ball for at least telling you about possible stock is toycountry.com (Their newsletter is here: http://www.toycountry.com/store/toy-news-archive-monster-high-dolls-toy-country-online-toy-store.html)

Thanks for the tip -- I hadn't heard of that website! :)

I finally caved in and ordered a Wave 7 case from Entertainment Earth -- the only one I don't want is Jackson, and I should have no trouble finding a home for him, since tons of people are looking. I'd have one spare Operetta and Nefera, but I've always wanted to have a hair-down version of Nefera, so I'll keep her . . . may try to re-home Operetta, though, since I have two (one with restyled hair, one with default.)

I, uh . . . may have a sickness! (But retail therapy is getting me through this hellish period in my life, so I'm running with it!)

Yeah, I'll be ordering the same case for my friend (and I'll be selling the dups to other friends, more than likely) as he doesn't have a car and I can only do so much running around with gas prices so high. xD;

Hehe -- it's always fun to see dolls/toys with mixed proportions next to each other -- it really brings out the differences!
